John Wesley University, a 114 year old faith based university of 150 students located in High Point, North Carolina seeks an experienced person to recruit and lead their Women’s softball team for the year 2017-2018. Using the Gibson Park fields for practice and play the Head Coach will recruit eligible student/athletes desiring a college education. Most important to this process is making the correct “student-institution fit” for each student athlete. The student services team is ready with scholarships, tryout days, information sessions and communication to assist with identifying and enrolling these new students for each semester. Currently the University supports successful intercollegiate sports of Volleyball and Soccer for Women. Last year the Women’s Softball team competed as a Club Sport. Currently, there are 10 student athletes prepared to compete this fall.

The University is currently a member of the NCCAA. The softball program will compete in a very established and competitive division and league. Presently, the position is funded as part-time from August 2017 to May 2018. There is a paid and experienced assistant coach in place. Included in the softball budget are substantial scholarships as well as a suitable travel and equipment budget. The budget will be appropriate to size and competition of the team. This is why recruiting is so critical. Salary will pay $1,000 per month during this school year. The salary can be discussed and advanced according to team size and added responsibilities.

Most important for the Head Coach is their ability to become part of the University family and represent the principles and values held in high esteem among the faculty, students and staff. It will take a self-starter that has the patience, vision and energy to develop this program from a competitive club team to fruition; but the rewards will be uncommon and life fulfilling. With all the local high school, community college and club softball being played knowing and recruiting the local markets is a great advantage.

John Wesley University tuition is around $11,500 for full-time study per year. Scholarship levels for softball range from $1,000-$6,000 per athlete per year. We have no board program so the room costs include a kitchen, utilities, Wi-Fi and four to an apartment. For two semesters the average room costs are about $3,500. Students provide their own food.

We will interview viable candidates until this position is filled. We have an assistant in place as well as a fall schedule and a partial Spring Schedule. This is a terrific group of ladies waiting for some fortunate, passionate coach.
